As you might expect, it claims to make AI-written text undetectable, but we thought we would try it out and see if it lived up to its name. After all, our mission to preserve what’s human means we’re naturally both suspicious and curious about a tool that tries to do exactly the opposite.

Can Undetectable AI really outsmart AI detectors and genuinely enhance the writing? Here, we dive into its promise to “bypass all major AI detection tools with just one click.”

Undetectable AI claims it is “built to identify AI-generated content and ensure that your writing remains undetectable by AI detectors”. 

At first glance, it is an all-in-one solution for those who want to use AI tools without getting penalized for doing so. Its humanizer tool has a paraphrasing function that implies it can tweak text to bypass AI detection.

That doesn’t necessarily immediately raise any red flags, but this is what did: although its website claims it is the “​​#1 best AI detector rated by Forbes”, we couldn’t actually find evidence of this when we checked the Forbes website for its ranked tools and no direct article is linked at the time of writing this review. This made us question the credibility of its other press mentions as well; we found no evidence during our review of testimonials provided by Undetectable, leading us to believe these are fake.

Disadvantages of Undetectable AI

• It automatically removes all formatting.
  • While this may not be an issue if you’re inputting a sentence or paragraph, it can be time-consuming and hard to fix if you’re writing a longer blog post or article.
• It’s free but low quality
  • Being free might appear like a strength on the surface, but we suspect it is because of the consistency of low quality of output from the tool.

Undetectable AI vs GPTZero: How Do They Compare?

GPTZero recently incorporated AI paraphrasing detection into its models to flag text run through popular bypassers, which includes Undetectable AI. Although no model can claim to be undeniably accurate when it comes to detection, GPTZero can clearly spot Undetectable AI’s paraphrased text.

As an example, we asked ChatGPT to generate a full-length essay on how space exploration has changed our understanding of the universe. We then used the first two paragraphs as a test.

We ran it through GPTZero’s advanced scan, which detects AI with 99%+ accuracy. Our result, and Undetectable AI’s result, both correctly labeled this as AI-generated.

We then put the paragraph through Undetectable AI’s AI humanizer, choosing the University setting and ‘General Writing’:

We don’t recommend using tools like Undetectable AI or other AI bypassing tools designed to escape detection, as they often make the text worse by lowering its overall quality and readability.If you’re keen to strengthen your writing with AI-powered educational feedback, there are a few options worth exploring:

1. GPTZero’s writing feedback and AI vocabulary: Take notes from one of the earliest and leading sources of AI detection. GPTZero offers tailored writing feedback based on your content type (essay, applications, marketing blog posts, etc.), You can also run an additional AI vocabulary scan that highlights the most commonly used AI terms, so you can avoid sounding like a bot.
2. Quillbot: Quillbot is also technically a paraphrasing tool, but its educational backers include Course Hero and Scribbr, so it does attempt to enhance writing overall. Note: we’ve found that if you generate text from ChatGPT and run it through Quillbot’s paraphraser, AI detectors like GPTZero may still detect the text as AI-generated.
3. Grammarly: Grammarly helps to fix grammar, spelling, and other sentence-level errors – and its recent AI features also offer specific and guided writing improvements for a price. However, we’ve found that if you generate text from ChatGPT and run it through Grammarly’s rephrasing tools, AI detectors like GPTZero may detect Grammarly suggested edits as AI-generated.

Final Verdict: Is Undetectable AI worth it?

No. In short, both the Undetectable AI Humanizer and Undetectable AI’s AI Detector are primed to help users keep churning out content and maximize volume as opposed to quality. The company provides misleading credibility with unlinked, seemingly made-up press mentions on its main site, and its tool is still detectable as AI by the services it claims to bypass. 

It’s also ethically misleading to present AI-generated content as your own. Writing your own work, then rewriting and revising it, is still one of the strongest ways to make sure your writing does not get flagged by AI detectors. While it might seem like the harder path in the short term, it is certainly the most rewarding path in the long term.
