How to Make Your Writing Interactive and Engaging
AI Writing Tip: AI lacks the critical engagement made possible by human writing. AI won’t ask questions or challenge their audience. So, prompt reflection directly with your reader. Pose a tricky hypothetical, and implore them from the page to consider how they’d respond. Ask a question. Present a conundrum. Catalyze a deeper level of thinking. Robots were not trained to do that, but humans can.
Engagement is a key component of effective writing, especially when it comes to connecting with readers on a deep level. Writers carry within them the innate ability to provoke thought and start a type of “conversation” with their reader. This ability stems from a shared human experience, and the capacity for empathy and intuition. While an algorithm can mimic the subtle nuances of personal experience, they can never fully replicate them.
AI works within the confines of pre-programmed algorithms and data sets, which limits the ability to engage in a truly interactive manner. AI-generated content may be informative and structurally sound, but it probably won’t surprise you. It won’t turn your prompt back around on you, forcing you to see something in a different way. There’s no warmth, spontaneity, or compassion. You won’t advance your philosophical ethos or further develop your moral compass by grappling with AI’s complex truths.
Instead, you’ll find a useful but predictable exchange; a highly transactional delivery of information. As a reader you’ll play the role of knowledge recipient, but never the role of active conversational participant. In human writing, you’ll often see adjustments in tone, style, and emotionality as a text runs its course. When you’re reading, you might find the writer asking you a direct question, or challenging you to consider something you hadn’t considered before. In AI writing, you won’t.
